S L J Weird and Wonderful Cactus

Hi,
Today I am doing the Summer Learning Journey. So far I am up to day two Activity Three.

New Zealand is one of countries that has amazing plants and trees. The African Desert is home to amazing plant like cactus.

Over one full year, how much water will you need to give your cactus plant?

I Think they should be water once a week.

Here is a photo of a cactus.

  1. Hi Tory,

It is great to see that you are trying your best to complete these activities on your blog.

However, we need to make sure that the questions are being answered fully if we want to earn points for any Summer Learning Journey activities.

Some of the activities can be quite lengthy to read especially if there is an attached link you need to follow. This is why we need to take our time reading the questions carefully before jumping in to solve these questions. Remember - it is not about rushing through the activities but it is more about taking your time to make each post creative and interesting! :)

In order to help you understand better, we have changed the main question of the activity to BOLD text. Bold texts are the darker and thicker text you can see at the bottom of each activity.

Please take your time to carefully read through this questions again and let me know if you are stuck! We are here to always help and support you throughout this journey.

p.s. There are no penalties if you finish certain activities later than others so you can take as long as you need. :)

    2. Hi Andrew,

I understand that you are trying your best and I am here to help you. Just a friendly reminder that this activity was a maths question asking you to figure out the total amount of water needed (in millimetres) when it is being watered 3ml a day for a year.

As I've mentioned, the details for this question can be found on our summer learning journey website:

Have a go at solving this question! :)

    4. Hi,

Do you prefer to be called Andrew or Tory? I want to make sure I get it right!

Do you know how many days are in a year? (If you don't know, you could Google it!) If you multiply (times) the number of days in a year by 3 (3ml each day) then you will have your answer.

Have you solved problems like this in class before? Please show us how you work it out so that we can help if you need it!

I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

    6. Kia ora Tory,

Well done for giving this question and equation a go. Sometime's maths equations can be a bit tricky so I am so pleased to see you give it a go.

Great job, you are correct that there is 365 days in a year. So, with the help of Laura's suggestion, how many mls would we need if a cactus needs 3mls per day for 1 year (365days x 3mls =???)

      Good luck my friend :)
